Who Knew?

My kids are normal siblings. They fight and scrap and carry on and drive me crazy on a regular basis. Some times I have to just throw my hands up and walk away. If there's no broken bones or blood, then they just have to work it out. Good or bad parenting, I don't know. I just know the nerves can't take it and they won't ever learn how to resolve issues in life if I'm constantly jumping in to save the day.

Santa left a surprise in Georgia this year. A mini-trampoline (36 inches) with the handle bar to hang onto. My research on The Boy's condition shows that physical exertion can often help with melt downs. The repetition of physical movement and just being able to get that energy out of his system is positive. Paige needed something inside she could do for fitness and Makenna just enjoys jumping. Therefore, the trampoline scored all the way around. Yesterday, I was in the other kitchen (a.k.a. laundry room) when I heard something suspicious. I walked around the corner to the kid's living room and almost had a heart attack. My son was in his SpiderMan costume with his legs hooked over the handlebar of the trampoline and Makenna was trying to help him injure himself. I said loudly, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING!" They both the did the guilty jump and The Boy immediately said, "It was MuMu's idea! It was her idea!" I just started laughing and couldn't talk for a minute or two. This upset him even further because he kept exclaiming he was not in trouble because it was MuMu's idea. Finally, I was able to catch my breath and I informed him that it was dangerous to do that and I did NOT want to see it again. He went on this long explanation about how SpiderMan can flip and climb walls and such. Apparently, the dress up costume he was wearing is supposed to enable him to do such things also. Yeah. I anticipate an injury in the not so distant future from the new toy.

Got a little goodie to share with you.

Who knew the new DS could cause world peace in my home. Even if only for a short time.

Another answer

I was told yesterday to double The Boys dosage. Wow. Wonder what this is going to do.

I won't know because he'll be at school when it kicks in.

I can't keep him home because I'm working with Compass today. It's that time again. One of my sections to present is this morning and I'm wondering how on earth am I going to focus and do my job if I'm worried about my baby.

Good thing The Man is available for quick pick ups and consults right now. He hasn't started his new project yet, so he's a little loose in the desk chair. Works for me. That means I have more help with all the doctor appointments and what not. In fact, Dad took him for his first speech therapy session yesterday. They came home with flash cards and knowing how to practise. Man, I do love this co-parenting gig we got going on.

I am so fortunate to have friends I can consult with about my boy. I want to thank Melinda over on the West Coast. She has been an amazing help to this troubled Mama's heart. After I talked to the doctor yesterday, I called her to see what she thought. Why? Because she and her family are on the same path....just a few steps ahead. I thank all my local pals who might be on the same path or just are there to lend a much needed ear.

Now, I get to start my day and give my son double the dosage to see if it will help him. Trial and error with medications mixed in with it being my baby? Not good stuff, Internets. Not good at all.

By the way, in the midst of all of this, my 9 year old daughter has decided she wants to grow a few inches, purchase a slightly padded bra, and catch amazing attitude. What is up with that? It's killing The Man. She was two when they met and bonded. She's still two in his eyes. Definitely not old enough to be wearing a bra that hooks in the back!!!

Things I forgot

There are a couple of things that have slipped by without me giving proper notice to.

We took The Boy to the doctor Monday. This Mama was on a mission. I had my binder with all the information concerning his behaviour and teacher notes all nicely arranged under my arm. The Doc asked what the problem was and I flat out said...My baby doesn't talk well. He's having issues in class and here's what we're dealing with. Then I proceeded to whip my binder out and show him. NAVY people are all about paperwork and information and graphs and numbers and what have you. I was ready to impress. He read every single page while nodding. He spoke with The Boy for a few and agreed that may be he could use some help in the area of speech. Lungs were listened to and ears were checked. The Boy was glad to show off his ability to hop on one foot. I looked at the Doc and said....he's a beautiful healthy child who can't communicate. We are now waiting on the referral to get here so we can get some speech learning going on! This was week two of him seeing Miss Rose, his therapist/counselor for behaviour. He loves to visit her and play with all the toys in her office. She's wonderful with him and I'm pleased with how she interacts with him. Still waiting to see what her take on the situation is.

Last Tuesday evening Makenna was invited to participate in a group who spoke in front of the monthly board of education meeting here. The librarian at her school had a group of kids representing grades 1st-5th to tell what they believed knowledge to be in their own definition. The Man and I took her while Paige and The Boy stayed behind at home. It only lasted a few minutes and we were dismissed from the meeting (I kind of wanted to stay and see what it was all about!). We decided to surprise her and stop for coffee on the way home. She was allowed to pick out a piece of cake for the three of us to share. She also insisted that she wanted an iced coffee, but I knew she wouldn't drink it. (Of course, I got her a de-caf one!). It was nice to hang out with her and spoil her a little bit. She was tickled to death to be the center of attention. We try to do this once in a while with the kids so they keep feeling as special as we think they are. We were so proud of her standing up there in front of all those people. She spoke clearly and looked cute, too!

Busy weekend coming up here at The Edge. Paige is heading out of town early Saturday morning with the ROTC on her overnight field trip. Not too thrilled about it, but at least she'll be somewhat near family if something happens or goes wrong. They'll be able to get to her quicker than I could. I expect some picture text messages from her to let me know all is well. She's ten kinds of excited about spending the night on a carrier.

The Man and I are celebrating our 5th anniversary this Saturday (Yay us!) . Too bad I have to go to the Khaki Ball instead of celebrating. Oh well. At least I scored a manicure and pedicure out of the deal. And a new shirt to wear. I'll give more details on that later, I'm sure.

The diet is going well. I'm missing my snacks. I want my snacks.

PICTURE TIME!

Each child had a letter out of the word "knowledge". Makenna's was the letter "O" and every one picked on her and said it looked like an egg.

The Man read these words that our child had written and said it sounded alot like integrity to him. I think what she said was perfect and beautiful.

Why is this?

Can someone please tell me why band aids are an obsession with kids?

I can't keep a decent band aid in my house to save my life. I honestly believe Vitt and Mak can sniff them out no matter what. I can buy a box and sneak it in the house, hide it in the cabinet behind something and they STILL find that box and use in one day.

Vitt will wear one for all of five minutes before the glue irritates him and it's snatched off. THEN, you have to kiss the spot where the hair got ripped off because it hurt and there was no wound to begin with. But, because that particular area hurts, he can justify using more of them. He firmly believes this.

Makenna thinks that as soon as one teeny tiny drop of blood gets on the band aid, it's time to put on a fresh one. Lord help us if I buy a box of different sized ones. She then tries them on like shoes until she finds the perfect fit. Next thing you know? All of that size is gone. Of course, that's the size I will need when I get a paper cut.

Just now? I went to the fridge and guess what I found in the freezer? My newest box of bandages.

I guess they were hiding them from me. Game on. Let's see 'em find that box now!
